Jane, a Homeshare ‘returner’
Jane first Homeshared through Homeshare West at the age of 32. She moved in with a Householder who was unable to sleep in her home overnight because of a deep fear of a gas leak (she had no sense of smell). The Householder was reassured by Jane’s presence and gradually got the confidence to be alone overnight. The arrangement ended when Jane’s health deteriorated.
12 years later Jane applied again, and was matched with a Householder with whom she stayed with for 18 months before moving in with Doris, who had dementia. Initially Doris found it difficult to adjust but with support from Doris’s daughter they formed a friendship which lasted for almost five years. During that time Doris had several spells in hospital with Jane visiting regularly. Eventually Doris moved into residential care and Jane moved into her own flat.
